Still haven’t planned your summer van trip? Wondering where the best places to enjoy it in Quebec are?

This article is made for you. In addition to suggesting beautiful places to discover, we will also share practical tips for your adventure. You will find advice on where to sleep during your road trip in Quebec in a camper van or RV.

If you’re planning a road trip in Quebec and want to find the best spots where to camp, here is your guide.

CHARLEVOIX

It’s no wonder the Charlevoix region is a very popular destination among Quebecers. Along the Saint-Laurent River, this region is full of parks and breathtaking landscapes. You will find beautiful trails and plenty of activities to do.

If you want to stay at a campground in Charlevoix, the Falaise-sur-Mer Campground in Saint-Siméon is definitely a place not to miss. You can go whale watching there, forest hikes and much more. Being by the river is an experience you never get tired of.

In the beautiful Charlevoix region, located less than two hours from Quebec City, discover the town of La Malbaie. Not only are the roads to get there stunning, but this small town also contains the Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park

SAGUENAY-LAC-SAINT-JEAN

Another iconic region of Quebec is the Saguenay region. A place full of must-see landscapes. It features 3 national parks, 256 km of bike trails, 42 km of beaches, and much more.

A specific place to visit is the Fjord du Saguenay. A great campground by the water is available in this area: the Baie-Sainte-Marguerite campground.

The Fjord route is ideal to explore by van: it runs along both shores of the fjord, passing by Route 170 and Route 172. You can even discover it by bike. It is also possible to come across many small villages there.

TADOUSSAC

The Saguenay route can lead to this third magnificent place: Tadoussac. It is a village located in the Côte-Nord region. Tadoussac, surrounded by exceptional nature, is known for its incredible whale watching

Several beautiful campgrounds are available to you in this region, one of them being the Camping Tadoussac.

GASPÉSIE

A must-see in Quebec is definitely Gaspésie, which is a rather grand region. There is therefore a lot to see and do. You will find activities such as cruises, kayaking, sailing, hiking, canoeing, and more. There are also plenty of cultural activities, like museums, art galleries, and festivals.

You can enjoy a road along the water (Route 132) accompanied by magnificent landscapes. Then discover the town of Percé, where you will find the iconic Percé Rock. There is also the small coastal town of Carleton-sur-mer, which offers the Carleton-sur-mer municipal campground. It’s definitely worth taking a trip there.

Finally, you can’t miss Forillon National Park and of course the Gaspésie National Park. Both offer unique views.

MAURICIE

Here is another very popular spot among van owners, especially for its vast national park. Indeed, the Mauricie National Park has over 150 lakes and many activities. You’ll find beaches, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and plenty of hiking trails. There are also many places available for camping. In short, there’s a lot to see, especially for those who love nature.

Where to sleep in a van?

Being in a van for several days, weeks, or even months can make it difficult to find places to spend the night. Fortunately for you, all vanlifers in Quebec are in the same situation. That’s why several resources have been put in place to help you find affordable spots to spend the night in your van.

Here are three Quebec-based platforms that help you find a place to spend the night:

Arrêt Nuitée VR

This platform is a reference tool that allows you to find a place to spend the night by registering (for free). It even helps you find waste water dump stations for RVs or vans. It also indicates tourist information centers.

Go-Van.club

This platform lets you see campsites and other places to spend the night throughout Quebec. There are some low-cost options, but to access all the sites, including many free ones, you need to subscribe to Go‑van.club.

Terego

This Quebec-based platform shows you free places to park overnight at local producers offering overnight parking. You need to subscribe to the platform: there are packages for a few days or for the year. You can see on the map that there are many sites available all over Canada. If you travel a lot, it’s really worth it.

Park4night

This platform is not Quebec-based, but it is still a good tool to find places to sleep around the world. You can even find places where you can take a shower. If desired, you can also subscribe for more features, at about $16 per year.

Facebook Groups

If you want to search not only for places to sleep but also for tips from other travelers, joining a Facebook group is a great option. It can be very interesting to see the experiences of other vanlife enthusiasts.

Bonus: Save on gas

Traveling by van obviously requires a lot of spending on gas. We recommend using the platform GasBuddy. This platform helps you find the cheapest gas stations across Canada. You can sort the results by province and city. You can even see the options on a map, which makes searching easier. On the road in a van, GasBuddy makes it easy to find a reasonably priced gas station along your route.

Quebec is full of beautiful places to discover by van or car, with family or friends. Here are just a few examples that can definitely help you plan your vacation!
